New Things in Art

So here at Mutant A Day sometimes we like to go a little out of the norm of comic-booking and into the land of Art. Who’d a thunk!

I’d like to take the time to feature local DFW artist Loretta Gonzalez. She is woman of great talent and has a great twist to things seemingly cuddly.  Her paintings [which may be considered 'low brow art'] run the gambit [ooh how cajun] of emotions and really leave you pondering why your feeling what your feeling.

Her use of color and pattern never leave the eye tired or bored and the mischevious and well thought out subject matter doesn’t go over your head, but stabs you straight [or not so straight whiink] in the heart!

Here at MAD, we LOVE every piece of work she has done. And look forward to her next show, fo sho!

Blibbity Blobbity Boo

Don’t have a heart attack, we’re back with another mutant on this fine February day.

Frederick J. Dukes, a name that rings a resounding, “Huh?” with most people.

Maybe THIS will jog your memory!

Blob

SPLADOW!  How do you like them apples? Well, you wouldn’t look good in a unitard either, would you?

If you haven’t guessed by now, you’ve just been visually assaulted by The Blob!

This massively monstrous mutant from the Marvel universe as well as native sexin’ Texan, began his X-Men appearances in Uncanny X-Men Volume 1 #3 from January, 1964. While not the brightest bulb in the bunch he has certainly spent many years of his life devoted to villainy and the pursuit of squishing X-Men.

Blob

KERWHAM! Boy, has this good ol’ boy been beaten up! Either on Magneto’s Brotherhood of Evil Mutants or Mystique’s (or pretty much any passing evil group that picked him up) Blob gets his bodaciousness handed to him time and time again. He’s currently powerless and working as a weight-loss guru. I’m flabbergasted too.

Not much else to say about this fella but you stay tuned for the next update, true believers! You never know when we’ll plop down a post like a huge, unitarded ass-to-the-face!

Hulking Out, Runaway Style

Here at Mutant A Day we have lots lined up in the coming [on your face] months. We however have not forgotten the founding purpose of the site. To talk about a mutant a day.

That obviously isnt happening as much as we would like as we have expanded down there to covering local events and happenings in the world of comics and the like.

Its fun, no?

But this entry will take us back, to the days of yester months. Oh yes…[harder, louder] OOOH YESSS!!!

This entry is all about Molly! No, not Heroes Molly [isn't she dead or something anyways], RUNAWAYS’ Molly Hayes.

Miss Molley Hayes

Miss Molly Hayes

The daughter of two villians belonging to Los Angeles own Pride, Molly, along with the other other Runaways escaped her heinous heritage to unleash LA from the Prides evil hold.

The only “official” mutant of her bunch, Molly is SUPER strong like the Hulk [err...She-Hulk] and with her array of cute little animal/chibi hats there’s no disliking this pint sized Rogue.  The only downside to her mutant ability of super-strength is the super-nap she needs post-enemy distruction.

Baby sitter anyone?

Watch out for ALL CON next month in Dallas!!!  Mutant A Day along with its contributors will be covering the event and hope to get lots of info and take down a wookie or two.to bed i mean. Grrrrr!

Conventionally Speaking

Your beautiful, talented & hilarious (and humble, naturally) authors went to the 2009 Comicon in Richardson, TX and had ourselves quite a day.

The convention space was divided up into two main sections, the artist gallery and the dealers room.

The artists were all very willing to sell sketches, take pictures, do signings and generally just get their stuff out to the hungry public.  There were two artists who really lil-bow-wowed us.

The salaciously sapphic Cat Staggs has an amazing eye for the female form.  She has done some beautiful work in the Women of Marvel trading card set which we highly suggest you check out.  In all of her female pieces (honka honka) you’ll notice she goes for the sensual rather than the overtly sexual in a way that you don’t see in most female characters in the comic world.  Really something else.  We would love to see her get her own series, JUST SAYING.  Enjoy our collective sexiness with her royal Catness.

The other artist who really impressed us (and he could press us any way he wants) was Joe Jusko.  His most famous work was done on the 1992 Marvel Masterpiece trading card set although he has done work all over the comic industry for the better part of 30 years.  His colors are rich and thick (and that’s our kind of man) while his lining is complex and realistic.  Very consistent style and always a joy to look at.  And the art isn’t bad either.  Don’t you just want to rip his clothes off?

The second part of the convention was the dealers room and boy was it a room!   It was much louder and there was SO much to spend money on!  There were bootleg DVDs, decades worth of comic archives and more shirts and Mighty Muggs than you can shake a stick at.(And by stick I mean Mjollnir, and by Mjollnir I mean that hammer is my penis)  They had ALL the nerds covered.  Who fans, Battle Star Galactites, Trekkies, Star Whores, Weeboos and even the Ren Faire crowd.

Seriously, if you could dream it they were selling it.  We had a pretty nice haul ourselves (like every Saturday night around here) and you know we’ll be heading out the next time the convention breezes through town.

Oh! And there was some self-righteous actor from that new Punisher movie or something.  It was kind of hard to tell since he was wearing his sunglasses indoors.  Yeah, it was daytime.  He must be cute because he got a movie deal but we suspect his divine pole-smoking skillz might have played a role in the casting directors decisions.

Because, hello, freshly baked faguette.

That’s about it for our 2009 Richardson Civic Center Comicon coverage and we’ll be seeing you next post!

Keep it dirty.

Mutant A Day

New Posts to Come!

OMG, it’s been horrible (Dr. Horrible) of us here at Mutant A Day not to update this small, yet powerful, (much like Puck from Alpha Flight) website, bloggery thing. IT’S MADNESS I TELL YOU! IT’S TOM FOOLERY! IT’S SHANANAGANNERY!….wait…I don’t know what that means…or do I?

Anyhoo, We apologize.

However we will be putting up NEW pics and junk from our recent visit to the Richardson Texas Comicon as well as some original art from artists like bearlicious Joe Jusko and our new hero Cat Stags! She reminds us of a white Detective Montoya! WOOT! We LOVE HER! (and her art). She’s GORGE!

See you soon!
