Maya Lopez, or Echo was first introduced to the Marvel Universe in the Daredevil series in 1999. With the ability to duplicate any physical action that she sees Echo is certainly a formidable hero!  With her superhuman powers she excels at many talents including martial arts, boxing, ballet dancing and though she is deaf, she is an accomplished pianist and music composer!  With a Hispanic and Native American mixed heritage, Maya is quite the interesting and outstanding hero!

Dark Horse’d: The coming months!

Art by Joe Chen - Dark Horse Comics

Art by Joe Chen - Dark Horse Comics

Recently Dark Horse Comics has been creating some awesome nerdy goodness!   How could it get better than the Buffy Season 8 comic series you ask?

To answer your question, in November a one-shot Dr. Horrible comic book will be released, focusing on how Billy became Dr. Horrible.  It’s written by Zach Whedon and will have special appearances by Captain Hammer, Penny, and Moist [down there], and will have 3 different covers to choose from.

In December, look for a Willow’s one-shot issue of Buffy Season Eight in which Willow meets a serpent lady who seems to know more about what Willow is and what she will become.

Coming this spring Felicia Day will grace us with her presence in The Guild comic book.  This will be a 3 issue mini-series, and we will get to see parts of The Guild we don’t get to see online.  We will actually get to see what the game looks like that the Guildies play! HOORAY!  For a sneak peek check out www.myspace.com/darkhorsepresents.

If you’re as big of a Joss Whedon and Felicia Day fan as I am, then you will definitely want to check these comics out!

Mujer del gato!

Catwoman

(image from Warner Brothers film, Batman Returns)

Selina Kyle, the original cat lady of crime, is one of the most iconic women of our Western culture.

No other heroine/villainine embodies all of the sex, mystery and deadly intrigue of the femme fatale as the Catwoman. Unafraid to break windows, doors, hearts or heads to get what she wants, Ms. Kyle is one of our favorite characters.

Retconned to hell and back (I mean, who wasn’t who lived through the 6o’s?), her current story is a harsh one.  Always forced to fend for herself, she gained a powerful sense of independence and the will to survive no matter what.  Bounced around the state system, posing as a prostitute, stealing on the streets, she was not a pampered child.  She grew into a woman unafraid to get her claws bloody, don some tight leather and get what she desires.

Thief, protector, lover, mother, friend or foe, Catwoman has been all of the archetypes of a living, breathing woman. And we love her for it.

Runaways’ rumor mill

90_runaways_14Recently there have been a lot of rumors floating around that Runaways might get canceled.  Issue # 14 has just been released but if you check the Marvel website there is no issue #15 scheduled for October or any month after.

Marvel has announced that Runaways will be on hiatus until the summer of 2010. In light dark of the economy, comic sales have been gradually slipping however trade sales have remained high.

The good news is that there are rumors of a possible movie to start production in the near future.  With such an endeavor at hand I doubt we will see the end of our tireless Runaways.

Runaways “Home Schooled” will be released in November, collecting Issues #11-14 plus a What If story.  Who know what the future holds for the Runaways but I hope this is not the last we see of them.
