Avengers: The Children’s Crusade #2 finally hits us right where we like it! X-Men vs. Avengers and the Young Avengers caught in the dramatic crossfire? Sign me up! We get some answers about the Scarlet Witch’s disappearance after the events of M-Day and the kids get closer to their goal of finding Wiccan and Speed’s real parent(s?). With such a fantastic start to this mini-series, this is sure to be topping the bill every week I can get my hands on it!

Brightest Day #9 SHOULD finally have J’onn show his pretty, green face in Star City as well as the big reveal of the new Aqualad’s powers! More White Lantern mysteries abound in New Mexico too, this stuff is getting pretty good, folks.

Now, I think I admit often enough that I’m not really a huge Marvel Universe reader. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not a hatred thing. I just don’t find myself as drawn to the 616 stories. When something as creative as Heroic Age: One Month To Live come along, though, you have my full attention! Dennis Sykes has one month to live and an accidental dosage of super-powers to accompany his impending doom! Can this average Joe make a difference in just five weeks? I’m excited to find out how well this creative team can pull the idea off!

JSA All-Stars #10 marks the continued upward spiral for the All-Stars! I feel like now that the characters have a real chance just to breathe and grow as themselves without being rushed around by events or crossovers, it’s starting to shine. The drug-gods of Parador (See?! You should read this!) are up against Power Girl this week as King Chimera reveals more of his past in Cyclone’s recovery room. The back-up feature has two more issues to go then it’ll be even more space for the All-Stars to get their development on!

iZombie #5, Gwen and her Scoobies are amazing! One of my favorite books right now!

Wolverine #1 & Wolverine: Road to Hell, Logan is the new Deadpool and I’m not a fan of that.

X-Men: Curse of the Mutants – Smoke & Blood, it’s the X-Club’s turn in the spotlight for the Vampires/Mutants throwdown! Love those three so much.

Young Allies #4, didn’t grab me in issue three but I still generally like the characters? It’s a book I feel a little guilty for dropping but drop it I did.

Xander Makes His Way To Austin Comic Con!

Nicholas Brendan will be appearing at the 2010 Wizard World Austin Comic Con.

What can I say, I’m a little biased! But for good reason since J.T. Krul has done a bang up job on Green Arrow two issues in. Really, I think he and editorial had differences on Rise of Arsenal causing some of the odd scripting choices. Everything else he touches I’m in love with! It’s green on green this week as the Martian Manhunter descends upon the new Star Forest! More mysteries of the White Lantern trees reveal themselves as well and Ollie might not belong as much to the forest as he originally thought. Plenty of good comic right here!

The Dark Things concludes in this week’s JLA! Will Jadesidian and Alan Scott be stayin’ alive once the JSA/JLA super team tames the wild Starheart once again? A connection to the Brightest Day events crops up here as well and it might not be the obvious threat to the earth causing the real harm. Very fun way to get the teams re-energized for this brand new direction. Definitely check this one out.

Who could mention the Justice League without talking about the shaky new (and perfectly penned!) incarnation of the International team? With everyone on board and gunning for Max, you’d think they’d finally get to the bottom of the mystery…but alas, our Checkmate king is no foolish prey. Are they playing into his game or beating Lord to the punch? Judd Winick has really hit a sweet spot with these characters, get in on this!

It’s a multi-publisher post as Tony Hawk stares into your eyes, smoldering and angry. Yes, future-Tony-Stark may be a grumpy gus but no one reading the new Avengers title should be! Bendis is definitely doing it like Beckham for this series and putting out exactly what a team-up story should be. No place for much individual characterization here but SO much humor and exciting group dynamic that it isn’t required. Time may be broken but that won’t stop the Avengers from getting Kang and the evil Avengers babies that sent him! Absolutely a must-buy.

Other noteworthy but less eye-catching titles:

X-Campus #3, another successful re-imagining of the X-Men! This has my attention more than the vampire stories, to be perfectly honest.

Namor: The First Mutants #1, assholes and fish! Fun combo or the MOST FUN combo?

X-Men: Curse of the Mutants – Storm & Gambit, everybody’s stealing stuff, y’all! It’s for the greater good though, so bow to the goddess, mon cheri.

I am SO happy to see another artist with the ability to give characters CHARACTER. Canadian born Chris Bachalo has done work for everything from Sandman to Generation X! Lately he puts very talented hand in the new Storm & Gambit series.

His heavy lines and pop feel gives his work exploding intensity. His men are drawn larger than life without giving them an overly muscular feel and his women are petite, but not weak, keeping their bodies looking healthy and powerful.

Alice Eve was originally to play the part but requested to be released from the role. You may recognize Jones from the popular television series Mad Men, where she plays the character Betty Draper. I think Jones is a great choice for the role, she definitely has the look of the White Queen. With January Jones as Emma Frost and Kevin Bacon rumored to be Sebastian Shaw, one can only assume we will see the introduction of the Hellfire Club.

The kids come face-to-face with the man responsible for their acceptance into the Raft in Avengers Academy #3! Norman Osborn is widely accepted as one hyper-troubled douchenozzle but I think one of the most heinous things he did during Dark Reign was mess with these kids’ lives. We get Hazmat’s origin story and a Scared Straight visit from the Thunderbolts! I love my teenagers angsty, volatile & ultimately likable. This might just be my Avengers book!

New Avengers #3 continues the mystical beatdown of the 616 and it hasn’t been pretty so far! Reality is crumbling apart and neither Strange nor Voodoo seem to be able to stop this devilish usurper! Attractive art and a humorous bent to a seriously crafted story. Another solid Avengers title.

Secret Avengers #4 winds down the first arc of the secret space Avengers and I’m getting it today with mixed feelings. The art has been downright delicious at times but the story just hasn’t grabbed me yet. I love to see Beast (even if he’s being a covert operative with a huge A on his chest) at any time but even with all the action and well-plotted story, nothing is making me want to keep on going, you know? Ah well, I’m not the Marvel guy, so what do I know?

You got me, Marvel! While the Women of Marvel line/imprint can sometimes be awfully anti-woman, you give me a cover of a super-heroine working it out or kicking some ass and I’m in! This is the variant cover, by the way, but the issue itself is sure to have plenty of Emma Frosting as we see her getting face-nasty with Namor. Mmmm, seaweed breath. The Five Lights are coming forth as Hope travels the globe, I guess finalizing whatever change she activated in these new mutants? Uncanny X-Men #527 is sure to keep the love-party going from Second Coming, even if the new X-Men series itself is leaving me a little high and dry.

It’s the Justice Conglomerate versus the Starheart in JSA #42 this week! Even their might won’t cut it, though, so who better to lend a light-sucking hand than Shade? If you’ve been hoping for a point to catch up with the current JSA OR the JLA I’d start with this crossover. Well drawn and both books are well scripted.

The Teen Titans are taking over in DCU Legacies #4! The Silver Age had babies and they’re kicking ass…in green faerie boots! Seriously, I couldn’t be happier to watch DC discover the greatest love of all. It’s all about the in-house love and it’s splendidly done.

Brightest Day #8 not only features one fine, feathered lady as the A cover but a host of delicious answers as well! I won’t spoil the turning points in issue 7 but let’s just say that this stuff got some serious kinds of real! Who is the White Entity (I mean…let’s not do those jokes, I guess?) and is Boston Brand Deadman enough to make things right? The Hawks are getting bloody on Hawkworld, Firestorm is…an unstable nuclear disaster waiting to happen, J’onn is hot on the trail of the Martian murders & Aquaman is plumbing Mera’s depths. And the mysteries of Mera’s depths. In all honesty, this series is completely worth it now! To all the naysayers, I promise things have been made right.

Batman Beyond #3 puts us squarely halfway into the new mini-series. I would say that this might be a better trade purchase than individual issue purchase if you haven’t bought into it yet. Plenty of enjoyable action but neither the story or art is making me jump for joy. Worth the money if you’re a fan of the show, though, of course.

Cyborg Superman and the Qwardians! If you didn’t think Brightest Day meant “Silver Age redo”, you weren’t following along! The Alpha Lanterns have been corrupted in Green Lantern Corps #51 and it’s up to Hannu to save our beleaguered Lanterns from cyborg-erization. For not having read more than an issue of this series, I’m surprising myself with how excited I am to follow along. A nice comic with some interesting Brightest Day connections.

Zeroing In On Batwoman!

DC has announced that in November Batwoman will make her return in Batwoman #0. This issue will have the creative team of the upcoming series, plus as a bonus Amy Reeder and J.H. Williams will be collaborating on the art. This issue is a reintroduction to Batwoman through the eyes of Batman.

The series originally scheduled for the summer will be making its way to the stores in February. J.H. Williams III and W. Haden Blackman will be providing the story while Williams and Reeder will alternate on the art. Not that I don’t enjoy some of the other Bat titles but I can’t wait for Batwoman’s return.

Smallville Gets An Upgrade!

James Marsters will be returning for Smallville’s 200th episode, but not as the Brainiac we have seen in past episodes. It is rumored that Marsters will be making his return as Brainiac 5, the Brainiac of the 30th Century. In the comics he is the descendent of Brainiac and is trying to atone for the evil acts the Brainiacs before him had committed. Brainiac 5 is a 12th level intellect who’s inventions and intelligence have made him a valued member of The Legion of Super Heroes. In the comic he has also done some questionable things so who knows if he will portrayed as a villain or hero. It should be interesting to see how they work Brainiac 5 into the show and to see if there will be any change in Marsters appearance. I don’t know if they should make him green because he might end up looking like Piccolo from his performance in the Dragon Ball movie.

International Vampire Fishnets

X-Men #2 is Marvel’s big interest for me this week and I’m not quite sure how to feel about that? Don’t get me wrong, I’m still riding the high off of Second Coming and loving the recent Five Lights issue of Uncanny. Blade is in town to fight the vampires here and it could be good or bad for our team. The team that is slowly turning into vampires… Anyways, I’m giving this X-Men story a go as well but I just don’t see the appeal of Mutants vs. Vampires. Could just be me though and LaForge knows the art is worth the price! X-Men is a must-buy for so many for a reason, I’m sure I’ll see the light before too long.

Speaking of getting a SPIKE TO THE FACE. White Canary is so hardcore her hair wants to stab you. That is the hair of vengeance. Which is only a fraction of why Gail Simone’s new run on Birds of Prey is completely awesome and something you should get on board with while you can! Don’t worry if you’ve never read an issue, you can start at #1 here, I promise! As usual, the art is expressive but ass-y and the script is perfectly paced and lovingly crafted. Come on, you know you’d kill for those fishnets!

Zatanna #4 has our mistress of magic going toe-to-toe with a new, zanier Royal Flush Gang! She’s hot in Vegas (or anywhere, let’s be honest) but a side order of cousinly trouble is sure to give her a Zachary-sized headache. Beautiful comic all around!

Generation Lost #7, y’all! The team is re-assembled and attacking Max Lord in his new Checkmate citadel! Judd Winick is all over this story and if you have reservations about him, rest assured he’s on point here. I would love to see this team continue after this story arc ends but time will tell. The drama is here, the quirk is here, the twists are here. The JLI is back in style.

Hey, so there’s another Brightest Day book to buy! Woo, right? Emerald Warriors #1 tells the story of Guy Gardner and Atrocitus on a secret mission to the Uncharted Sectors of the universe. It could very much be Magog All Over Again but I have faith in Brightest Day now (especially after issue 7). But seriously, if it’s just Guy and Atrocitus “sword fighting” it’s going in the recycling. Or is it going in a frame? Choose your own adventure.

Batman and Jock Together Again!

The Losers artist Jock will be returning to Detective Comics alongside writer Scott Snyder. Jock previously worked on Detective Comics during The Cutter story arc, when Batwoman had taken over the title. I’m definitely a fan of Jock’s work and enjoyed the flashback scenes of Batman, while Batwoman was on the case. Now that Batman is back in Detective it should be interesting to see Jocks take on the current Batman.

Bat-shiz-Crazy!

AP [associated press] and Yahoo posted some news this morning about a Batman No. 1 comic [seen to the left] that is “rare” and “on sale” for and expected $40,000.

Normally, I’d be like, “Oh Snap-Beans.” But the grade on it is a 5.5 out of 10. The bids have gone up to $35,000 but as a collector why the hell would someone spend that much for something that’s half as good as it can be. Lame Balls.

They say it’s impressive for a vintage comic, which is all well and good, but $40,000? Really? Did the economy start shitting out unicorns and gold and does everyone get a ride on the Bifröst?

Evolution Of X-Men First Class!

Edi Gathegi has been cast to play the mutant Darwin in the movie X-Men First Class. Darwin has the ability of reactive evolution allowing him to adapt to any environment or situation. I think it will be cool to see Darwin on the big screen, but I’m afraid that this has the potential of turning into X-Men 3 all over again.

All Star Animation!

In 2011 Grant Morrison’s All Star Superman will be made into a DC Universe animated movie. All Star Superman takes place outside of DCU continuity, and is Morrison’s take on the Superman Mythos. This should make a good movie because this is not your average Superman story.

SDCC Assemble!

San Diego Comic Con has delivered some more amazing news, so here are some more SDCC updates. The big news that’s got every one talking is two more Avengers have been cast, Mark Ruffalo has been officially been cast as the Hulk and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye.

In Smallville news both Blue Beetle and Booster Gold will be appearing in episodes, according to Geoff Johns. Also Smallville’s Chloe Sullivan will be making her debut comic book appearance in Action Comics #893.

In animation news, Young Justice comic book writer Peter David will be writing some episodes of the Young Justice animated series. It also has been revealed that Superman and Wonder Woman will be appearing on upcoming episodes of Batman The Brave and the Bold. If that wasn’t cool enough there is also going to be a new animated Batman series.

In video game news more characters have been revealed that will appear in Marvel Vs Capcom 3. Among several returning characters it has been revealed Thor, Okami, Super Skrull, and Trish from Devil May Cry are among some of the playable characters.

In comic news Wildstorm will be releasing a God of War comic book. Also Grant Morrison revealed in Batman Inc. the silver age Kathy Kane will make an appearance. Finally my favorite news, the Runaways will be making more appearances in the Marvel universe, which will ultimately lead to something big. Hopefully this will lead to another series.

SDCC and Beyond!

We were not able to attend the San Diego Comic Con, but we do have some SDCC updates. First off Batman Beyond will be returning to comics some time in the future, once the current miniseries wraps.

In other DC news Grant Morrison will take on the character Captain Marvel in a title called Thunder World. Morrison will also be writing for a new Bat-title which will team Batman with many unlikely allies, called Batman INC. Then Geoff John announced Bightest Day will not be the end to the events of Blackest Night, there will be another story arc after Brightest Day. Plus we will be seeing a Green Lantern video game and a Suicide Squad video game.

In Marvel news it’s finally official Joss Whedon will be directing the Avengers movie. Also there will be a new X-title called Generation Hope. This title will focus on Hope and the five new mutants born at the end of the Second Coming story arc. This is a break down of what has happened thus far, we will try to keep you updated as always.

Brightest Day #6 grants us some damn answers! Well, that’s the idea anyways. The full price of the resurrections (if all those deaths and Black Lantern drippings weren’t a clue) will become clear to the Returnees. Deadman learns more about the White Lantern and it looks like Martian Manhunter gets some special attention this issue. The series has turned off many but I think there’s still plenty of hope left in the Brightest Day.

I am way too excited for this crossover! Justice Society of America #41 is part two of the REAL Lantern crossover and the Starheart is making the Scott’s go bonkers! Please get in on this JLA/JSA event, there isn’t a better time to jump on board. Magic, mayhem and some of my favorite characters all in one book. Love it!

It’s Night vs. Zatara in Zatanna #3! The bad Brother is targeting Zatanna’s closest friends and she won’t take that lying down (in her amazingly plush bedding). A magical battle is going down in the sexy streets of San Francisco and it’s sure to be breathtaking.

Batman Beyond #2 has Terry getting up in Catwoman’s (well, a Catwoman’s) grill about the old Batman’s foes becoming the targets of his mysterious foe. I have yet to be grabbed by the story, honestly, but very nicely drawn so far.

The Silver Age is upon us in DC Universe Legacies #3! The original JSA and co. have stepped down and now the heroes more commonly loved nowadays come to the forefront. Not to be missed for any fan of DC. Really a beautiful, simple tableau of the DCU timeline.

Avenging Lights!

Time is broken in this week’s Avengers #3 and it’s up to the original A’s to make it right! While Kang came back with a warning for the Avengers, he’s not know for his helpful assists. If the last panels from issue 2 were any indication, he’s being bullied into working for the evil new gen Avengers from the future. Mystery abounds but how will this broken timeline affect the Marvel U, even if the Avengers can make it right once more?

New Avengers #2 puts the other big team in mystical danger as Brother Voodoo is under attack! Magic is changing once again and the Sorcerer Supreme has entrusted one of the most important artifacts to the NA before they can even set up shop. Just another day in the life, right? Maybe not my favorite of the new Avengers titles but it could very well start to wow me with this issue!

That’s not Lady Loki on the cover of X-Factor #207, right? I don’t think it is but X-Factor is back to its own storyline with a new green client! Babies, Shatterstar and the band all together once again! It’s high times for the mercenary mutants if they can survive this issue!

Pretty sure that’s a bad touch, Magneto. He’s like caressing her ovaries or something, GEEZ. X-Men Legacy #238 puts Rogue and Magneto on a path to Mumbai as Indra’s parents request his return to India. All is not as it seems when they arrive. Unexplained earthquakes and storm cells abound, could it be a connection to the Five Lights or something else? It’s nice to see the only Jain mutant get a little page-time regardless!

Darkhorse Getting Dolled Up!

Darkhorse will be releasing a limited edition Dollhouse comic book, which you can acquire October 12th with Dollhouse season 2. The comic is titled Epitaphs and is written by Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen, who wrote the episodes Epitaph 1 and 2. Epitaphs will fill in some gaps of what happened between Epitaph 1 and 2, there is pretty much a ten-year timeline to play with. The art will be done by Cliff Richards, which his Felicia Day looks amazing. For those of you going to the San Diego Comicon, you have a chance to purchase a copy signed, at the Darkhorse booth.

The Guild Returns To Comics!

Felicia Day will be returning to Darkhorse Comics in 2011, with another “Guild” miniseries.

This time around each issue will focus on one member of “The Guild”, with each issue having a different artist. The first issue will be co-written by Jeff Lewis, who portrays Vork in the web series. Based off the fact the first miniseries was so good, I think the second miniseries will be a must read as well.

X Men 1st Class; Do I smell Bacon?

It seems that cramming as many seasoned actors into one movie is the way Matthew Vaugn is going with X Men 1st Class. Kevin Bacon is set to play an undisclosed villain opposite McAvoy and Fassbender [Xavier and Magneto] in the prequal set to come out in June of 2011. I would make some joke about six degrees of Kevin Bacon…but that would be more appropriate of it was another Spiderman movie. “Spiderman and the Sinister Six-Degrees-of-Kevin-Bacon. See what I did there?

Also nineteen year old Jennifer Lawrence of 2010 Winter’s Bone is set to play a young Mystique. With all of these mutants coming out of the woodwork it really is a gamble as to how this movie is going to be recieved by audiences. Not to get all uber bitch-matic but isn’t there already some time line issues here?

The gorgeous Buffy alum Clare Kramer has been added as a featured guest at the Wizard World Austin Comicon. Kramer played the role of the hell god Glory, the big bad of season 5 on Buffy The Vampire Slayer. You might also recognize her as Courtney from the very first Bring It On movie. Ms. Kramer will also make appearances at the Big Apple and Chicago Wizard World Comicons.

Johns has worked titles such as Teen Titans, The Flash, JSA, Superman, and Green Lantern just to name a few. He also is responsible for the popular Blackest Night and Brightest Day Story arcs. He is DC’s Chief Creative Officer and is the man who wrote the “Absolute Justice” and “Legion” episodes of Smallville. We Came, We Saw, We Conquered?

Man, what a death last week, right? What a WEEK last week, right?! So much has changed for the mutants and what does it mean that Hope has done her…ya know, Hope-y thing? Well done Marvel for getting me to buy ALL your dang mutant books! X-Men: Second Coming #2 out this week puts an end to the mutant crisis. Just in time for vampires! (yay?)

X-Men: Hellbound #3 helps to finish off the big X-over but this is one team I’m not feeling too hopeful for. With all those hopeless odds stacked against them and Pixie giving in juuuust a bit too easily to evil, I’m willing to bet Magik is put through some serious paces here. Who knows where the team will end up by the end of it all?

Avengers Academy #2 keeps my favorite, new Avengers title going! Such a straightforward recipe that almost can’t be screwed up! Messed up teens struggling to better their lives while doing some good in the world but finding out that the world isn’t always such an easy place to find a second chance in. Loving the characters and story, I only see this improving.

No matter what anyone says, Girls Comics (Girl Comics #3 this week is the final installment) was a success to me. Nothing that changed the universe or any characters in major ways but SO much talented art, writing and editing too all in one title. It’s a bit pricey but well worth the cost if you can spare it. These women made something special. I can’t comment on X-Women or the other Women of Marvel titles this year but this was the one for me that I connected with (even with the cheesy title).

Hey Marvel! I’m reading your other mutant titles now! WHOA BABES! New Mutants #15 sets the team out on their own again, on a little vacation of their own! But as anyone who has read about the mutants before knows, mutants can never stay happy for long! The New Mutants are under attack once more by a paramilitary organization that wants nothing but to ruin a perfectly wonderful vacation! RUDE.

I’m quite happy that Marvel is doing Uncanny X-Men: The Heroic Age. Often, from any publishing company, a humongous crossover event will leave so many characters and teams dangling in limbo right along with the fans who are trying to figure out where their favorite characters are supposed to be in continuity! I can’t be ashamed to admit that I love me some continuous plot. I want to know where my people are and what’s going on. Even if it takes another comic to do so! These three stories should do just that, placing the Uncanny team firmly into the Heroic Age!

The Penguin is temporarily on the team and helping our heroines reclaim their lives. Or at least catch a breath before they’re wiped off the map completely!

Just what in the hot hell does Maxwell Lord want with the “reformed” JLI? Justice League: Generation Lost #5 comes out this week and maybe the murderous mastermind doesn’t have a grudge against the team after all. He clearly needs them for something but it’s anyone’s guess now. All these wonderful, interesting people in one book gets my attention any day of the week.

Titans #25 has the new team (now with 100% more evil!) targeting Lex Luthor. With an Osiris/Deathstroke showdown being the highlight of the issue, I’m reading along for the Brightest Day information we’ll glean from this story. Not to say I won’t enjoy where this could go…I’m just not sure why it all happened, you know? Anyways, it’s decidedly a book I’m getting today!

The Source has posted a teaser image of an October event called the Return of the Black Lanterns. Could this possibly explain why Brightest Day has been so…well, dark up to this point? We’ll be tuning in to find out but how this ties in to the purportedly pivotal 7th issue of the main Brightest Day remains to be seen. More disgusting zombie kisses to come, that’s for certain!

Norton No Smash!

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has released a statement confirming that Edward Norton will not be returning as the Hulk, in The Avengers Movie.

Feige says that “our decision is definitely not one based on monetary factors, but instead is rooted in the need for an actor who embodies the creativity and collaborative spirit of our other talented cast members”. (Ouch) It’s interesting because Norton had met with Joss Whedon and both seemed to be on board with him returning as the Hulk. Norton was said to be excited about reprising his role until Marvel informed him the role will be recast. So now the question is who will be the new Hulk.

Superman/Captain Marvel Animated Tag Team!

Warner Brothers will be releasing a compilation DVD of DC Showcase animated shorts. The feature on the DVD will be the short Superman/Shazam!: The Return of Black Adam. This feature will last much longer than previous shorts in the past, it will run a total of 22 minutes. More information will be released at upcoming comicons, so we will keep you updated as more information is released.

Beasts and Banshees Oh My!

According to deadline.com and variet.com Nicholas Hoult and Caleb Landry Jones have both landed roles in the highly anticipated movie X-Men First Class. Hoult will be portraying Henry McCoy also known as Beast. Jones will be taking on the role of the Irish X-Man Sean Cassidy, better known as Banshee. You might recognize Nicholas Hoult from the BBC series Skins and from the 2010 remake of Clash of the Titans. Jones has been in the television series Friday Night Lights and the movie The Long Shots. I’m a fan of Skins so I can’t wait to see Hoult bulked up for the role of Beast. It’s hard to say anything about Jones because I’m not familiar with his work, and there are very few pictures of him. This cast is really turning out to be pretty amazing so I can’t wait to see who the cast as Cyclops, Jean Grey, Angel, or even Storm!

Hawks, Ghosts & Blood

Deadman is getting some answers (as well as bringing the LIVE powers everywhere) in Brightest Day #5 while the Hawks and the Aquapeople get themselves further into trouble. The cost of their new lives in the realm of the living is slowly revealing itself, leading to the pivotal (at least promised to be pivotal) issue 7. Mera getting her RAGE on can only lead to happy things.

JSA All-Stars #8 finally, finally sets the All-Star team on its own new course! After dealing with the split from the larger JSA, losing a home and two teammates as well as the general fallout from Blackest Night I feel like this could be the start of a new era for the team. So, I won’t lie, the artwork is very…stylized. I feel no strong connection to how the main feature is drawn but the characters! The creative team has been tweaking the All-Stars back and forth and I think time will show that they’ve struck gold. We shall see!

Dead Fred is still on Gwen’s mind in iZombie #3 and the ghosts, vampires & were terriers aren’t taking any of the pressure off of our zombie heroine! The deadly paintball course, the relentless hunters and a best friend who needs her constant attention aren’t going to make this an easy solve. Again, gorgeous artwork and story work! What more could one ask of a comic?

The Phoenix Crusade!

The Young Avengers and the Scarlet Witch are FINALLY coming back to the spotlight in the Marvel universe! Avengers: The Children’s Crusade #1 kicks the whole event off as Wiccan’s reality bending gets an unexpected kick up to the next level. Like Scarlet Witch level. Which will prompt him on a journey (or Crusade, if you will) to find the Magenta Maven herself to figure out what’s the haps with his newfound ability. I’m excited and Jesus is excited, so you should be too.

Phew, Adi Granov does a mean cover, doesn’t he? X-Force #28 is the penultimate chapter of the fantastic Second Coming event and I couldn’t be happier for this wait to be over! Could Hope’s powers finally manifest? Is she really going to summon the Phoenix Force? Can Cable survive now that the TO virus is running rampant in his system? Just call me a hunk of burning questions, because this has been one king storyline, leading right into a relaunch of the X-Men title!

X-Men #1 is just that title! I’m a little leery about the set-up (mutants vs. vampires?) but that could be because I’m relatively new to the whole Marvel experience. Or that it’s kind of a wonky idea. In any case, I’m sure an intriguing plotline will manifest at some point on this brand new day for our favorite mutants!

Man, what Bastards in this week’s Young Allies #2! Ha ha, I come at you with my puns, have at thee! With all the destruction and downright evil the BoE showed our Allies last month it’ll be a miracle if they can hobble together a happy ending for everyone. Very notable start to the series so I’m looking forward to where these characters can go.

Web Slinging With Andrew Garfield!

Andrew Garfield has been cast as Peter Parker in the Spider-Man reboot.

Garfield is best known for his role in the movie ”The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus”. Although Andrew Garfield is 26 he will be playing Peter Parker in High School. At least he has a young look to him so he should be able to pull it off. Lets just hope there isn’t another Kirsten Dunst cast in this movie.
