CCO Joe Quesada; Marvel.com

Former Current Editor-in-Chief, Joe Quesada has been named Chief Creative Officer of Marvel Entertainment, LLC.

But not without a PRICE!!! DUN DUN DUN! Not really. He will remain E-in-C as well continuing to bring about what he’s been bringing about for the past decade.

This move much like the mousey move a few months ago a-la Disney, has not gone without some ridicule from Marvel fans. We the people, at MaD,  don’t really have a big issue with him being CCO.

Just continue giving us what we want; more Second Coming, more Heroic Age [More gay Colossus] and more great art, and we will golden shower you with praise. And by you, we mean Marvel as a whole. It takes a village, right ladies?

 Second Coming is the third instillation to the Messiah  Complex and the Messiah War!  The story will conclude Cable & Hope’s journey from the future wrath of X-Man Bishop to the present where all characters collide in what promisses to be one of the most exciting story lines since The Dark Phoenix Saga! A schorcher for sure! Coming out in March 2010

Ladies & gentles, I have a confession. I am a teenage drama queen. And more importantly, Siege is blowing my mind! Siege is Marvel’s four-part miniseries culminating in seven full years of drama and setup on good ol’ Earth 616, focusing on Norman Osborn’s attack on the newly-materialized Asgard. There are, as always, tie-ins and one-shots that fully flesh out the details and background of the story but the meat of the conflict is contained in the main series. We prefer all meats to be well-contained.

Anyways, I love many Marvel characters but I have certainly been spotty in my following of the Marvel U’s story in the past few years. I’ve picked up a few collections (House of M, Death of Cap, things like that) but I haven’t been a True Believer. With talks about the dawn of a new Heroic Age for many of our favorite marvelous heroes it had me thinking about jumping back into the fray of collecting.

Siege, if you had any doubts, is THE perfect place to jump in on. The reader is given a brief introduction in the beginning of the book and it is more than enough to follow the story contained in Siege. THEN at the end of the first issue, we’re given a special round of Cup O’ Joe wherein Joe Quesada explains all of the threads that have led to Siege and what might come next. Honestly, it’s like this series was made for me. Not only am I feeling up-to-speed with the rest of the readership but I’m truly (and sexually) excited for what’s to come and what I might be able to get in on with this bright age approaching. I’m recommending Siege for anyone with the ability to read and an interest in Marvel. Which should be everyone. I’ve been catching bits of Blackest Night as well and we’re quite “stoked” (we ams so straight, y’allz) about Brightest Day and what that could mean for the DCU as well but I had to share my newfound, polyamorous attraction to Marvel!

Looks like everyone is headed towards the light (Italian dressing at the salad bar).

A marvel in his own right, Stan Lee was president of Marvel comics and has since become the true face of said comic empire.

With hundreds and hundreds of works produced within comics, movies and video games, Lee is an astounding man and one of our favorite people on the planet!

Happy Birthday from all of us at Mutant A Day!

Tokidoki the Japanese inspired company teams up with Marvel to make some uber cute apparel.

Tokidoki was created by Italian artist Simone Legno who has done some amazing collaborations with Hello Kitty, Smashbox, and ipod.  You can purchase a Tokidoki x Marvel t-shirt for $28, a hoodie for $65, and a Hat for $35.  These prices are not too bad, this seems like the normal price you would pay for a t-shirt or hoodie at the mall.  These adorable products will be released in February 2010, which these would make a great Valentines gift.

Four eyes, two (three? or four?) heads, six fingers and all the Avian knowledge of culture and warfare. He most notably tried to have Bruce Banner fix the city of his extinct masters after seeing Harpy (Betty Ross stopped shaving for a few weeks) on the wing. Besides his combat knowledge, his android body grants him increased strength, reflexes and durability. Bi-Beast, we salute you. You know, twice.

With enjoyable stories and handsome artwork, I definitely recommend this series for both newbies and comic veterans! If your looking to collect them all, there is a trade which has just recently been released collecting the origins of Colossus, Jean Grey, Beast, Wolverine, Sabretooth and Gambit. The Iceman comic is in stores now and the Cyclops comic will be released in January. I can’t wait to see who they choose to focus on in upcoming issues.

Recently there have been a lot of rumors floating around that Runaways might get canceled.  Issue # 14 has just been released but if you check the Marvel website there is no issue #15 scheduled for October or any month after.

Marvel has announced that Runaways will be on hiatus until the summer of 2010. In light dark of the economy, comic sales have been gradually slipping however trade sales have remained high.

The good news is that there are rumors of a possible movie to start production in the near future.  With such an endeavor at hand I doubt we will see the end of our tireless Runaways.

Runaways “Home Schooled” will be released in November, collecting Issues #11-14 plus a What If story.  Who know what the future holds for the Runaways but I hope this is not the last we see of them.

Hank McCoy, a double-mutant in some respects, is one of the most talented minds in the Marvel universe inside one of the most instantly recognizable bodies. More notably a founding member of the X-Men, Hank (codenamed Beast) has also served time with the the Avengers, the Defenders, X-Factor and is currently again with the X-Men. His mutant abilities include, superhuman strength, agility & reflexes as well as heightened senses and a powerful dark side. He’s largely responsible for an effective anti-virus being created during the Legacy virus crisis. His mutation has further advanced twice in his existence thus far, the first instance giving him blue fur and enhanced abilities (in bed) and the second occurrence giving him more feline features and even greater abilities (at sex), including an accelerated healing factor.

Ever a symbol for the struggle between the darker and lighter aspects of human existence, it’s no wonder he’s been such a popular mainstay of the Marvel universe. He’s an activist for justice in every sense, hoping to bring humans and mutants together peacefully. I hear he also has some pretty useful pheromone powers, if you know what I mean.

And who wouldn’t want to know a genius they could pet? Just me then? Well alright.

THE BACKLOG COLLECTION!

I am not omniscient. THERE, I’ve said it! I admit my faults and I have faith that we can all grow from here.

But seriously, I don’t eat, sleep & breathe comics. I love the art-form but I’ve never even read many characters and books.

So things like Marvel’s comic collection offering is sold under the name Essentials and has introduced me to the corniness of old-school Incredible Hulk (written by Stan Lee, of course). Which is fantastic!

I haven’t personally checked out DC’s offering which they call Archive Editions yet but I look forward to that as well.

I mean, it’s about the perfect way to catch up on stories you might have missed, right?

Always wondered how the new X-Men started? Go check out Volume One of the X-Men Essentials! Want to see just how cheesy the Metal Men were back in their heyday? GO CHECK IT! There’s no color in the Essentials collections but the line-art and text is exactly the same and the price is lower than the Archive Editions which update and preserve the original coloring and full effect of the artwork.

A classic DC/Marvel conundrum, I tells ya.

Just be sure to give these lovely gems a once-over the next time you’re in your local shop, you never know what arcs you’ll be able to re-read or enjoy for the very first time…like a virgin.

So this? Not a comic I’m going to read.

In fact, this might actually be a sign of Armageddon. I’m not saying Eminem doesn’t have talent. I personally enjoy a few songs from his library.

But Punisher?! Good lord, Marvel. What were your executives thinking?! This shouldn’t have even been entertained as a possible source of funding. Gah, I know I’m just giving it more attention than it deserves. The author is well-known for writing well so it won’t be completely awful, I’m sure it won’t be as bad as I’m feeling it would be. The story will even make sense, certainly!

Come on though, Industry. Give folks a chance. Give your consumers a chance to be discerning! I know we’re all in it for the drama and the violence but trust that we can see a good comic when it comes to us!

Trust in your audience. This is just well-paid publicity for Eminem, I get that. His people got with your people and BAM! Part of his comeback. Where’s that artistic integrity? I’m not expecting literature with every issue of every book but we’ve had such endearing stories in the past! Don’t just do what pays, make the art we all have loved from you! Rise above! Deserve to be the industry giants you are!

Aaron, Smallville’s Jimmy Olsen & Shawn, X-Men’s Bobby Drake (a.k.a. Iceman) are two Canadians that add so much to the live-action versions of their print counterparts.  I’d say (and I think many would agree) that in a world where Bryan Singer casts Halle Berry as Storm, someone else would take the lead (um, whoever that may have been) and cast Shawn as Iceman, which is more than a perfect fit!

So this Happy Belated Birthday goes out to Shawn & Aaron. Enjoy the pics!
