A Super Ending

Tonight is the series finale of the 10 year running Smallville starring Tom Welling [ton]. This calls for a special celebratory drink, and some super snacks. Perhaps.. Blur Biscote, Clark-Kent-Bars, Lois Lane-Lemon Squares? And to wash it down, some Kryptonian Kool-Aid. If you’re feeling down about it all, just grab the nearest man, squeeze his super pec and give him a kiss. Awwwww.

Cold As Tits!

(Cover by Karl Moline, Marvel Comics)

We have great comics coming to us this week, as usual, but there is one issue above all the others that I’m dying to pick up. Valerie D’Orazio’s second major entry as a comic book author comes to us in the form of X-Men Origins: Emma Frost. Naturally, it tells the tale of Emma Frost’s early rise to power in the Marvel U. From a meek, New England beginning to running one of the deadliest secret cabals in history and finally to a more tempered role as a mentor and member of the X-Men, she’s done it all. Such a varied and mega-powerful woman is sure to be in safe hands with D’Orazio and with Karl Moline on visuals it’s going to be gorgeous as well.

We talk about it often but we love seeing complex women take the forefront in entertainment and I think it makes the world a better place to encourage that. In the Marvel U, I don’t think any other character represents power as much as the original White Queen does, in her unique way. While Jean Grey was unadulterated psychic force, perhaps, Emma Frost is pure psychic power that takes pleasure in the power. What’s more feminist than a woman who’s unafraid of her own capabilities and loves to exercise them? She has a deep-seated thing for being at the top and she’s more than happy to make you aware of it. That’s the basic attitude we should be instilling in young women. You are powerful and you are capable of anything.

Maybe Emma Frost has done some real harm in her world but at the end of the day, she fights for what she believes in. All good reasons why I’m excited for Wednesday and why you should be too!

New Posts to Come!

OMG, it’s been horrible (Dr. Horrible) of us here at Mutant A Day not to update this small, yet powerful, (much like Puck from Alpha Flight) website, bloggery thing. IT’S MADNESS I TELL YOU! IT’S TOM FOOLERY! IT’S SHANANAGANNERY!….wait…I don’t know what that means…or do I?

Anyhoo, We apologize.

However we will be putting up NEW pics and junk from our recent visit to the Richardson Texas Comicon as well as some original art from artists like bearlicious Joe Jusko and our new hero Cat Stags! She reminds us of a white Detective Montoya! WOOT! We LOVE HER! (and her art). She’s GORGE!

See you soon!

Mal-licious!

It has been TOO LONG down there. No, this isn’t going to be some mini-entry with just a bunch of hot pictures! OK, I’m lying, it TOTALLY IS! Or is it? Well, on to the Whedonverse continuation!

Nathan Fillion is gorge! (gorgeous). He’s smart, funny (on screen) and is not scared of a little musical. He’s probably one of the most versatile actors that does not get enough credit. He’s done it all not me though…frown: One Life to Live, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly, Desperate Housewives… geez, just a PLETHORA of movies and TV shows! Remember Two Guys, a Girl & A Pizza Place? Yea, that was him. One gay movie, OUTING RILEY, which I have not seen yet. He doesn’t play gay but he plays the brother of a gay guy…so that’s nice. (whiink)

Then, of course, my favorite character, Mal from Firefly & Serenity drool. We are all upset that it ended but I’m sure we all own the DVD set, and if you don’t, go get it as it’s a nice addition to anyone’s sci-fi library. If he turned you off as Caleb from Buffy (only because he was massively evil, THE ONLY ACCEPTABLE REASON), I have no doubt that he’ll turn you on in Firefly. Even you straight guys and lezzie maguires!

For shiz (dear old Shiz), he makes me want to get big shiny guns and shoot things in my brown coat. Look for him doing some voiceover work in the new Wonder Woman animation coming out in 2009!

Revelations: Book 5 of 5

Last week the 5th & final book of Angel:Revelations came out of the closet!  The ending to Warren Worthington III’s school days with lots o’ drama. MAJOR SPOILER ALERT!

So post creepy-man-baddy-using-the-little-girl-with-mutant-finding-abilities-to-find-Warren’s-school, Warren got rid of the ‘touch-my-no-no-zone’ Priest there by saving resident underdog homo and BFF Andrew from any further abuse!

After Warren’s Angelic Avenging, it was time for a stand off with THE CRAZY BIBLE THUMPING, no doubt republican/McCain/Pailin/Bush supporting GUN WIELDING guy!  During break, (and since Warren, Andrew, ‘The Jock’ and Warren’s Ex-Gf are still there) a fire breaks out and it is up to Warren to save everyone from the fire and from the hell storm that the crazy guy is bringing. He flies up and grabs his gun, which he (in true red neck fashion) does not let go of until-YOU GUESSED IT-he is 100s of feet above the ground. So he falls to his doom.

DESERVES IT! (but Warren felt bad)

So, of course he saves everyone also giving away his secret mutation (wings, not just a TV show) and we are left with a stronger more focused Warren who sets out to be a true hero!

As far as individual series go for the X-Men (Gambit, Storm, Bishop etc.) Angel has FIVE STAR-ed its way into my heart.

I decided to include pics (it would be a crime not to!) of Ben Foster, who starred as Angel in the X-Men movies.  Now, being a fan of Foster from wayyyy back (Flash Forward! Hello, Jewel Staite. Look for an entry on her time on FireFly soon!) I wasn’t too sure about him as Angel. After seeing the movie, I think he really embodied the mentality of the character.

Enjoy!
