Strong, Female, Protagonist

The description blurb for Strong Female Protagonist should be enough to get any of our readers onto the series, “SFP follows the adventures of a young middle-class American with super-strength, invincibility and a crippling sense of social injustice” but interesting hooks are important only so far as a series can back them up creatively.

SFP has art cred to spare, no doubt about that, with stunning art by Molly Ostertag that just won’t quit:

But the character Alison (a.k.a. Mega-Girl) herself as scripted by Brennan Lee Mulligan not only shines as an example of a well-rounded and strong female character but as a character to watch and follow regardless of her particular identities. Mulligan introduces us to a complex and confusing world much like our own while blending humor and the automatically ridiculous nature of superheroics naturally to the story. Alison has doctor’s visits, college and work to attend, and self doubt about her self and her worth that make her instantly relatable. Add mystery about shadowy government actions and parallels with the Occupy protests and you have one amazing web comics that has reached an amazingly evolved state for being so recently begun.

Basically, Brennan Lee Mulligan and Molly Ostertag’s Strong Female Protagonist has something for everyone and shouldn’t be missed!

  1. Glad this comic got a deservedly glowing review, but her name is Molly Ostertag! I can see how the lettering on the cover would be confusing, though.
